EBU in-house training April 26th - 27th 2018

EBU in-house training was being conducted at Lembang, Bandung, on April 26th – 27th, where seafarers from all clients in EBU joining and participating in the training. In total we have 100 seafarers participating in this training, where we did have 50 seafarers representing each officer and rating.

The main objective of this training is to share the idea and knowledge of some interesting subjects to the seafarers. Subjects which being focused for this year are local and international regulation, such as STCW, MLC 2006, medical and psychological issue onboard, social media awareness training, explanation about Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Seafarer Employment Agreement (SEA), and safety leadership training. The training was being commenced with team building session where all participants got the opportunity to know each other since some of them did not know each other yet, as part of EBU family. As part of ice breaking session, this part was running with fun till half of the day. Then the training commenced after lunch where both officers and ratings were beStarts with awareness and ends with improvement, is the training theme for this year, it means that we do belief that if we do aware with awareness in all aspects, we are able to achieve improvement as the goal or objective of this training. Seafarers are also able to share their ideas since some of clients where they work with, might having different working or safety culture and they can learn from each other. This is the second time for EBU to conduct this in-house training ing divided into two groups – officer group and rating group.

Master Dicky Eka Sukma, one of our active Master, took the part of safety leadership at the first day of the training. The contents of this training is to share the idea about the expectation towards a leader onboard and how speak-up for safety is being implemented onboard. Beside safety part, update local and international regulation was also being delivered at the first day, where this was being brought by the Ministry of Transportation and Communication. On the second day of the training, we did have medical and psychological issue onboard, brought up by medical specialist from local training institute where seafarers were being familiarized with some interesting topics in how to keep them fit and healthy lifestyle as a seafarers. CBA and SEA part was being brought up by Indonesian Seafarer Union, to familiarize seafarers with the contents of both documents in details. Media is also the main topic of this year training since it is having an essential part for company reputation and seafarers also need to be well familiarized how to face media and to use social media in such positive way.

This is the second time for EBU to conduct this in-house training and we are having the intention to have this in annual basis since EBU belief that this kind of initiative will have an added value for the development of the Indonesian seafarers.
